Graphic in Sidehead and Column

hi. i'm trying place graphic in 2 column (with sidehead) document. graphic in sidehead , first column. happens when paragraph before graphic moves second column (out of order), , second column doesn't place text right of graphic in first column. confusing? me too!

i using 7.1 on windows xp.

in paragraph anchoring graphic ,
anchored frame's properties (i.e. in or out of column or text area,
below current line, @ top/bottom of column, etc.)?
