resizing

i have cs3 on pc , when want resize object in illustrater or indesign can no longer type in exact percentage want resize to. way can resize object open resize box , use or down arrows on keyboard. used able type in 93% or whatever, no longer allows me enter number.
can not find in preferences

try replacing preferences. hold down crtl + alt + shift after launching application. if don't see confiramtion dialog, weren't fast enough.
