i had request elderly friend lives in triplex shared (rural) mailbox.
he doesn't mail, , wants go (about 300-400 meter 1 way) check unless there's in there. others grab mail on way home work, "left over" his.
my initial thought somehow initial test rgb led & photocell "look at" empty mailbox & store settings. check whenever mailbox closed, if photocell returns results (+/- %) different empty box -- there's there. (possibly lining mailbox black paper or paint easy 'see' white)
my other thought hack 1 of cheap ebay grain-level scales , sense weight. tried using force sensor, minimum more few letters set off. using scale pretty big battery drain, think....
either way -- send radio signal after every mailbox close "yes mail there" or "no mail" -- can @ at 6pm , know if should go down... radio part simple & spot gets lots of sun can use solar charger keep battery charged...
before go trying 2 -- have (better) ideas?
