LED on gpio - Raspberry Pi Forums

hi, software guy less knowledge of electronics. not question raspberry general electronics.

happen if connect 2 volt led 3.3 v , gnd pin without resistor? damage pi or led? dont care if damage led. :p

burn out led, probably; light brightly brief time , go out forever. if led short ground draws more 16ma gpio pin may damage pi well... depends how long current flows... never tried it!

leds semi-condictors--- not resistance loads. operate @ specific forward voltage , forward current (to produce specific luminescence). there formula determining how calculate proper current limiting resistor.

use current limiting resistor leds (at least ones want use again!)
