Thread: Ubuntu 9.10 Applications not connecting to the internet

hi,

upgraded ubuntu 9.4 9.10 , although have internet broadband connection via ethernet cable router , shows connection ok in notification area top right of screen.

trouble firefox browser,pidgin im , package manager cannot connect internet reason.

able ping www.goolge.com or other web site.

can 1 me.

i had same problem, network tools find domains , none of applications would.
solution set network widget ip4 page set "automatic(dhcp) addresses only".
entered addresses of opendps (http://www.opendns.com) in dns servers box.
suggest @ website more information if put "208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220" in 'dns servers box# , should work.
problem seems isp provides dns servers in same way dhcp works. in windows can set networking system automatically machine address (dhcp) , auto discover dns server.

on system in 8.10 worked way on 9.10 looking dns on d_link gateway. , not looking dns servers further down line.
