making a module - is this right? Place content on homepage - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

hi guys,

i'm new joomla thing please bear me! want place content in left hand column beneath navigation menu (mainmenu). how do this? have create new module, , if so, how go doing this?

all want place static image in box heading 'weather'

i have searched boards found nothing - sorry if sounds amateur!

if text want show in left column, create new module, put text in , publish left module position. same goes image (weather).
