Preserving Figure and Table cross references from Word to FrameMaker

hello,

i trying preserve figure , table cross references when import word 2003 document (unstructured) framemaker 8.

when open word document in framemaker 8, works great except figure , cross references not seen. these references typically sit in paragraph text style use in ms word, after converting framemaker, no long there.

is there way adjust framemaker's import filter, pull in these cross references?

my word documents use fig_title , table_title style typical figure titles , table titles.

the ms word code figure , table cross references looks like:

{seq figure \* arabic }
{ref fig_* \} thru {ref fig_* \}
{ref fig_* \h}

{ref tab_* \} thru {ref tab_* \}
{seq table \* arabic }
{ref_tab* \h }

these cross references not use asterix, put asterix there instead of typing out figure or table name. else appear in field codes in ms word 2003.

what preserve these entries when open word document (.doc , not .rtf) in framemaker 8. mentioned before, else working good. need have data carry on framemaker , not blend in paragraph style "see figure... or see table..." actual table or figure number missing. have seen word figure or table missing , have number there in framemaker , not clickable @ all.

if has suggestions on process, appreciate feedback. sure not 1 has processed legacy word conversions , had resolve cross references did not import expected. dealing thousands of cross references, helpful, if find way have framemaker import filters accept these cross references coming in ms word.

would have add in new entries somewhere, .ini file or have framemaker template open handler these cross reference types on template's reference page?

on note, table titles in word above table , in framemaker, part of table, make use of table title continued variable. there easy way bring table title automatically designated table field (in fm)? perhaps need run macro in ms word first move table titles table title field first , open document in framemaker. well, first things first - cross reference issue...

bad news cross-refs, don't believe there's way retain them, filters can't handle them.
