Problems Creating PDFs

a lot of problems creating pdfs come using wrong printer create pdf or underlying printfile.

1. you should use adobe's distiller printer instance create pdf. comprises latest adobe postscript printer operating system plus distiller ppd.

3. don't use hp printer create pdf. postscript, or otherwise.

5. don't use xerox printer create pdf. postscript or otherwise.

note: if outputting service bureau, might want use other distiller printer instance. however, if encounter problems particular pdfs, try using official method distiller printer see whether problems limited setup. if problems persist, might have create postscript output using 1 printer driver , pdf using adobe's distiller printer instance.

common problems include:

• black , white, or greyscale, pdfs created color framemaker books , documents.
• 
  
• distiller terminating pdf creation process early, no pdf created.

troubleshooting:

• for lack-of-color problems, first check don't have spot black set in frame print dialog.
• 
  
• update printer using latest adobe postscript printer driver version.
• 
  
• uninstall printer using create pdfs , reinstall latest version scratch.

installing distiller printer scratch:

you should use distiller printer instance create pdfs. ti install distiller printer (bearing in mind, writing windows perspective):

2. get distiller ppd , put known location.

4. for framemaker 6, see step 6.
   
5. for framemaker 5.5.x and/or adobe acrobat version 3, go http://www.adobe.com. follow links support, downloads, printer drivers area operating system ( http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html).
   
6. download adobe ppd. (ppd means postscript printer description.) windows, file called adobe.exe, because self-extracting compressed file.

8. uncompress/unzip archived file adistill.ppd file.
9. 
   
   
10. for framemaker 6 , distiller 4, ppd on framemaker cd-rom, insert cd-rom rom drive. distiller file need adist4.ppd. on framemaker windows cd, in \extras\ppds\.
    
    
11. after know ppd need (adistill.ppd acrobat 3 , adist4.ppd acrobat 4), install latest adobe postscript driver os.

13. go http://www.adobe.com. follow links support, downloads, printer drivers area operating system ( http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html).

15. download latest adobe postscript printer driver operating system.

17. after download it, install adobe postscript printer driver.

19. when prompted, select ppd found earlier (adist4.ppd or adistill.ppd).

21. when prompted set printer installing local printer prints file.

23. after install distiller printer, should able create pdfs framemaker.
    

one final note. trust me, if pdfs not color, , graphics in framemaker document were, , want them color, using wrong printer create pdf. otherwise, spot black in frame print dialog.
