How to control solenoids via midi input ?

hi there !
i'm real noob in arduino,but little thing give me lot of ideas !
i've buy mattel synsonics (a "toy" 4 pads create drums sounds),and wanted create arduino interface attack pads 4 solenoids,one 4 each pad,via midi controller.

so,in fact : keyboard or sequencer > arduino midi in > solenoids plays on synsonics drums.

what midi shield should fit application ? , solenoids ?

any midi shield or none. depends on midi source. if computer can use hairless, software patch runs inside computer , converts arduino serial , midi.

you need drive solenoids, fet or transistor array.
