controlling RGB LEDS multiplexed with the HC595

hi all,

im developing controller interface software in max msp based on sugarcube controller.

ive used 4 rgb led rotary encoders , multiplexed led's 2 hc595 chips e.g led 1 r=q0 g=q1 b= q2 etc etc.

im able make leds light 595 test code need able control them serial messages specific colours when buttons pressed.

this knowledge limited , i'm finding confusing figure out.

any or information regarding decoding binary data or using serial data control things in max great

as understand hc165 can read binary serial data output work out serial data message button being pressed. use serial data in max msp control parameters.

serial data input can grasp data output confusing.
