4-channel relay: 5v or 12v?

i working on project going use arduino uno , 4-channel relay control 4 different 12v accessories (lights).  i assume using 12v relay easiest way it, require external power don't want backtracking pwm pins of uno (also assuming damaging).  keep in mind assume wrong lot.  is issue?

as far 5v relays go, have similar project (already completed) uses pwm pins , external power switch on , off 12v led strip.  see attached working schematic.  it understanding if use 5v relay instead of 12v, have build similar circuit.

space in project severely limited, i'd prefer first option if second requires building kind of circuit 4 times (for devices).

what's take on this?  thanks in advance.

if understand doing use 5 volt relay control relays power them using arduino power.  if relays need big , and digital pins not able switch them have use transister step power swit h on relays.  correct in assuming 12 volts there except vin on arduino bad.  current light require?
