the problem :
since our migration framemaker 7.2 framemaker 8 have problems automatic hyphenation not working supposed to.
we using framemaker 8.0p277 on pc (windows xp sp3).
on adobe support ftp in folder "case #0180382132" have uploaded various files. screen capture of our hyphenation settings.
one framemaker file hyphenation problem. 1 pdf file of page 15 has problem: near "2.2 [bureau de division]"
the word "présente" splitted "présen-te" according settings shouldn't. , page 42 has
problem: near "(4) [les dettes sont tenues pour dettes de lactif]" word "reçu" splitted "re-çu" , shouldn't
splitted @ all. text in french.
we had same issue framemaker 8 document. using postscript font melior. tested solution
swapping font open type version of melior , problem remains.
i have uploaded (in folder 2009-09-19) both versions of font framemaker 8 document. 1 example of problem
nearby "14. on comptait, au 31 mars 2007" on page 5 "réalité" truncated "réali-té".
changing font not solution.
why hyphenating correct in framemaker 7.2, because there no unicode support?
there no localization information related font?

both french-canadian dictionary , french dictionary; seems
font adds unneeded hyphen.

gabe, unfortunately don't have access of files send adobe, might not understand exact problem description.
have edited dictionaries specify hyphenation points of specific words?
if want particular word not hyphenate in 1 particular instance, placing discretionary hyphen @ front of word disallow hyphenation in particular instance of word.
another possibility word spacing settings in paragraph tag may need adjusted. in default fm chapter settings min 90%, optimum 100%, max 110%. these settings need adjusted depending on font used, type of content, , line measure in order best results hyphenation.
