resolution issue with samsung lcd connected via hd - Raspberry Pi Forums

hello!

have bought raspberry pi 3 , installed openelec. after connecting tv through hdmi have noticed not full screen shown. whatever reason, tv "thinks 40" one, while 37". while tv problem, wonder if there way fix/accommodate through having proper hdmi-output-to-vga-input adapter. internet has lot of confusing information such adapter impossible , available crap , not work; others work them. wonder if there reliable "raspberrry pi-approved" adapter surely work.

background information:
1) have similar problem tv in ubuntu. fortunately, on ubuntu laptop have video card , software allows modify resolution , correct issue (need redo every time when reconnect laptop though). same laptop while having windows vista, connecting same tv via hdmi no issues (which makes me think not entirely tv problem).
2) have laptop (old dell latitute d610) has openelec installed , connected tv via vga. no resolution issues in case. why believe hdmi-to_vga adapter may fix issue me.

please help!

going hdmi vga huge step backwards....

@ same resolution setting computer not know difference between 37" or 40" or 14" etc...

try adjusting screen in kodi menu.

[system] --> [settings] --> [system***] --> [video output] --> [video calibration...]

*** in menu make sure settings level higher basic

follow instructions , use arrow keys , [enter] on tv remote or keyboard/mouse make adjustments entire screen image on screen. if don't see top/left edge marker press down arrow , right arrow until see corner marker. press [enter] , repeat bottom right.......

can try different resolutions [video output] --> [resolution] menu leave mine in [desktop] setting gives max resolution.
