Reflectance Sensors are ineffective!


dear forum,
       i building self driving car can follow road lines. car has several different features including ability sense cars in front of , stop @ red light (this accomplished using spark.subscribe), having trouble basic function, is, line following capabilities. problem getting inconsistent readings reflective sensors, or else same readings white , black surfaces, seems bit silly. using qre 1113 sparkfun analog versions sensors. below, have attached both overall code robot (in progress) , test code made reflectance sensor. extremely appreciated. in advance!

do have 3mm above ground?

(that's sparkfun say; can't see distance given in fairchild's datasheet.)
