Thread: Screensaver? (inactivity > gray screen with an X)

hello - upgraded ubuntu 9.04 9.10 couple of days ago. evening noticed computer - after minutes of inactivity, goes gray screen, big x (the x.org logo?).

it's damned annoying; never want screen non-visible. checked obvious: power management , screensaver (system > preferences), , gconf (apps > gnome-screensaver), , set not have happen.

can explain going on?

thanks, victoria :-)

it simplified x.org logo (just "broken x," without encircling colored loop), popping on blank gray screen after 10 minutes of inactivity (i sat, watched , waited! :-p

here problem, described:

http://www.shallowsky.com/linux/x-screen-blanking.html

,

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-584502.html

remember having problem in 2007: then, screen fading black, after 10 minutes, independent of power management or screensaver settings. had edit /etc/x11/xorg.conf file, described in above links,

...
section "serverflags"
option "xinerama" "0"
option "dontzap" "true"
option "blanktime" "0" #this blanks screen
option "standbytime" "0" #this dpms
option "suspendtime" "0" #dpms
option "offtime" "0" #dpms
endsection

(various threads) there spaces, i.e.

option "blank time" "0"
option "standby time" "0"
option "suspend time" "0"
option "off time" "0"

don't know if males difference, or if have restart x have settings take hold. but, i'm pretty what's going on.

victoria :-)
