i'm posting try understand going on system.
have asus a8n-sli deluxe motherboard 8 onboard sata ports. add that, have add-on sata card 4 more ports. sata chipsets sil , nvidia.
have 3 500gb sata drives same.
attach 1 nvidia ports , boot install disk nodmraid option.
works , not others. when works, install partitioner finds drive , i'm good. when doesn't work, no drives show in partitioning screen.
can go back, boot livecd (nodmraid) , see partitions in gparted or disk tools. know os can see them...but when install livecd...the partitioner again shows nothing available drives.
in experimenting, figured out if use brand new drive, hasn't been installed to, show properly...but not drives have tried install on in past.
theory partitioner looks drives no mbr use install. make sense? if so, how "clean" devices can install them?
