Nikon support frustration

i've been using camera raw year now. learned acr's default rendition of nikon raw files quite wide of mark in terms of hue , saturation calibration, , seemed common phenomenon (judging research).

i set learning how best use acr (countless websites, discussions , 2 adobe books, including real world book goes on about). bought munsell colorchecker , downloaded fors, rags , tindemans scripts - seem produce different result every time, despite careful preparation.

i asked in nikonians forums problem, of them seem have given on camera raw, , instead use rather terrible nikon capturenx program, gives more accurate (although over-cooked) default rendition, supports proprietary nikon metadata, runs dog on pentium 4. many nikon users don't seem understand 'picture controls' have no effect on raw data, , used direct raw conversion process, , coupled poor default color calibration, causes many of them drop acr hot brick straight away.

i've bought d300. annoyingly discover more nikon metadata responsible features cannot use in acr (automatic chromatic aberration correction being 1 of them).

i love using adobe software. it's fast, it's ingenious, it's fab. so, hate see abobe drive away photographers (i can speak nikon users) inferior product, when few tweaks , additions win them over. fixing nikon reds start - far desaturated , orange. maybe selection of presets help.

i may overstretching suggest adobe attempts support more nikon metadata. don't know how cooperation there between adobe , nikon, but, if there little, can't rocket science decode picture controls , correction data, unless nikon don't want other people reading it. maybe bored script kiddies on job - they'll have sussed in no time ;-)

anyway, hope adobe keeps job camera raw, excellent product, better minimum effort.

keith,

> unless nikon don't want other people reading

that case, unfortunately. part of nikon's "secret sauce," if will.

we actively working on improving color. patience.
