How the serial monitor fits into serial communication

i'm trying use serial bluetooth module arduino , felt needed more education on how serial communication works. read on find , have pretty basic understanding of how works. thing don't understand how serial monitor fits in. sending go arduinos rx or tx? heard somewhere using serial monitor serial module attached can cause thing called bus contention. can sort out me please?

the thing don't understand how serial monitor fits in.
it fits @ all. debugging device more terminal, , better off real terminal, realterm. bus contention caused arduino's hardware serial port, d0,d1, being shared usb , bluetooth, , way use monitor via usb. com4,com10. bluetooth on laptop runs on com40, , works fine realterm.

sharing d0,d1 can tedious not problem, doesn't happen in proper practice. put bluetooth onto software serial, bet don't have reason so, , best avoided anyway. mega has 4 hardware serial ports and, if need multiple serial, it's better proposition.

note can have serial monitor share bluetooth when bluetooth talking device, phone, enables see going on, i.e. debugging.
