this has me puzzled!
i have latest fm 8 (p277) installed on desktop , laptop (both systems have plenty of ram, 4gb, , available disk space). have 13 chapter book toc , index on desktop system running vista ultimate. can build / update book , print pdf (given kludge steps adobe suggests). works fine!
i copy same book folder , subfolder "tree structure" laptop running fm 8, vista home premium. when build / update book following:
:cannot save 1 or more files in book" message... , if re-run update, of sudden toc document pops in fm window , different set of chapter documents has sort of permissions or numbering issue. has me baffled!
the files in different folder (ok, there no absolute paths -- dependent graphic files in subfolders document folder). fonts loaded same. can manually open , save each file no issues. if try print pdf, fails right away (probably because of other issue). anyways, fm 8 doesn't crash -- book update mechanism fails @ different places. documents cross link each other , each chapter reference (link) graphics in subfolders , there no hidden files contain additional metadata.
to play safe, disabled avg freeware 8.1 antispyware (used on both systems).

i'm having same problem (with fm 7.0). have tries numerous things solve this, , far, none have worked.i have book several .fm chapters. editing book yesterday, left open on night. , today causing problems.interestingly, error message not the same every time appers; not every file in book appears in message, , list changes every time.
update: *** not book-specific. *** tried book updating fine, , failing. either framemaker or in environment. , since tried on computer, suspect fm.
these things have tried , fail.
- i *have* many times opened , saved files on framemaker desktop. saving them individually gives me same error; not.
- i suspected might related u.s. time change. restarted, , shutdown/restarted computer. (however, since original posting last august, doesn't seem relevant).
- i checked clear case (our source control) , checked out again.
- i copied folder desktop , have same problem (so not clear case issue).
- i tried saving mif, opening , saving frame.
- i tried opening "bad" file , "good" one. cut bad , pasted good. saved name of "bad" file.
- i tried creating new book , putting existing files it.
- i tried new book new chapter, , cut-pasted old chapters in.
- i opened files on computer. (so file -specific?)
- i opened files in book , saved them. able update book, makes changes, save files, etc without error. closed files , updated book files closed, error back.
