Recommendations sought: starting a food co-op using Joomla as the hub. - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support


hi all,

i've been mambo/joomla user while have been out of touch in recent times. talking mate other day mentioned trying uni food co-op started, having trouble admin , logistics of whole thing.

me, being kind likes find simple, elegant , robust solution problems, thought of joomla; haven't spoken him yet, i'm seeking feedback if following possible joomla, and, if so, how people it.

essentially, idea farmers & producers log website , submit have available, in quantities, , @ price - [in head; none of has been formalised beyond that...] weekly process.

"clients" of co-op log in , "purchase" allocation of goods available. ideally, nominate when home receive delivery of fresh food, or, alternately, pick - in case [again, "ideal world" stuff] perhaps email sent [with ical? :-)] them confirming date/time/place of pickup.

admins of co-op log in, determine what's needed collect food farmers [vehicles, volunteers, etc] , book vols, vehicles, etc based on "real" info.

volunteers perhaps info on when they're needed/rostered.

finally - and, again, stress "if possible" stuff - system enable tracking of "credits" - so, example, if nominated food delivered home rather pick up, they'd charged additionally. volunteers, virtue of giving time, might able earn credits [coupons?] redeemed food. ideally, credits prepaid, purchases deductions prepaid amounts.

there's more, i'm thinking of thinking if read wishlist... "yeah, right... u need hire dev". problem is, @ cost project, attempting connect sustainable farmer people wanting fresh, seasonal food @ cost students [the clients] can afford.

sounds great idea application, however, "native" joomla! suited it? 

i because can't  afford custom development.  since joomla! cms, natively suited mange content, not application workflow.  if afford custom development, joomla choice because support basic functionality such user registration, basic content, etc either natively or numerous extensions.

the "vertical market" extension category want see kinds of applications have been built.  describing sounds excellent "community" type project local hs or college computer science department's term project.  imagine if built , donated community open source!  :)
