Best route from PDF back to FrameMaker?

hello,
i have 300 page user guide, created in frame (typical stuff - dozen or chapters, loads of cross-references, nicely formatted in dozen or paragraph styles, fair sprinkling of screenshots).
the frame source files have been lost, gone good. that's left pdf.

now of course, user guide needs substantial updating :)

if poor guy tasked sorting 1 out, try frame?
i have frame8 , acrobat professional 8 on winxp (and access adobe cs1 , ms office 2003).

for laugh, tried exporting pdf acrobat "word 2003" format, importing frame.
it crashed bad windows launched dr watson. , dr watson crashed lol

any thoughts/experience/wisdom/hilarious anecdotes list appreciated...

david,

basically doing right thing.

try export rtf.

but seems me need substantial clean-up in word before importing fm.

* rid of images word file before doing so.
* make sure there no double spaces
* make sure paragraph true paragraph , not single lines, looks paragraph.

there 3rd party plugins acrobat allows better export/save both doc , rtf formats. quite few actually. try them.

keep smiling
thomas
