i doing project need high resolution (at least 200 p/r) rotary encoder. needs small. have found one, big design. need compact.

i quite new arduino , everything, dont know look. (i not doing arduino work, finding right components) have searched around days, without finding anything, , therefore ask help. hope have tips leading me in right direction.

maybe can tell in world located (so can know send vendors , suppliers) - quantifying mean "compact" (size, weight, dimensions, etc).
also - might if knew needed rotary encoder (ie - project , purpose of rotary encoder project?); maybe there solution instead of rotary encoder job or better. helpful know if need absolute or relative encoder.
that said - have looked hall-effect encoders? basically, use ferrous metal gear (made of steel usually), 200 teeth. put hall-effect sensor small magnet behind (the sensor needs kind of application - check datasheet information details), , put near teeth of gear. gear rotates , teeth sweep sensor, magnetic flux changes due coupling teeth pass by. change detected hall-effect sensor, can amplified , used determine rotation speed , other parameters. 2 used can sense direction of rotation well.
such system give relative reading - , can't give absolute position - robust solution; such device used in cars on place, sensors crankshaft , camshaft of engine, measure speed of wheels (for abs) , in transmission , drivetrain (awd).
