Thread: Xorg get 90% CPU

hello.

i'm novice ubuntu, i'm fast learn.
i'm have kubuntu 9.04, update 9.10.

xorg server 30% of cpu on window move, , 90% on window resize.
i'm check drivers fine. ati x1950.
not make sense compiz or without it. still 90% on resize, , resize slow, not normally.

second trouble small one. i'm edit xorg.conf, add monitor resolution 1440x900. on load kubuntu ignore it. looks conf ignored. , load different place.

sorry bad english.

thank you,
yuinc

[update]

used open source radeon driver.

need configuration of it.

[problem shelved]

similar high cpu usage problem.

running kubuntu-kde3 9.10 on toshiba satellite laptop (bought dec.2006).
lspci shows
host bridge: intel corporation mobile 945gm/pm/gms, 943/940gml , 945gt express memory controller hub (rev 03)
vga compatible controller: intel corporation mobile 945gm/gms, 943/940gml express integrated graphics controller (rev 03)
display controller: intel corporation mobile 945gm/gms/gme, 943/940gml express integrated graphics controller (rev 03)
...
no problem until today.
last week switched gnome display manager , desktop, while using kde apps.
today switched kde3 , removed lot of unused gnome apps. desktop takes while load previously-saved session, , top shows high cpu usage xorg. no activity, goes down normal. can push moving mouse lot, resizing window, scrolling keyboard in firefox, etc.

, goodie: kde3 systemsettings crashes on startup. perhaps time reinstall...

edit:
after trying few things, discover that:
-kde _really_slow_ when loading anything.
-it continues log out, @ unpredictable intervals, particularly when using web browser - started week ago , reason switched gnome last week.

looks kde , knackered. so, pending reinstallation, i'm gnome. that's ok.
