it's swatch-switch script. here's text describing script site.
indesign, illustrator , photoshop cs2 , cs3 support exchange of colors via ase files. in other words, can use colors you've created in illustrator in indesign project, or colors you've created in photoshop in illustrator project, or vice versa. here's how:
1. in of these 3 applications, select colors in swatches palette want exchange.
2. in swatches palette or swatches panel menu of indesign, illustrator or photoshop, choose following:
* indesign cs2: save swatches exchange
* indesign cs3: save swatches
* illustrator cs2: save swatches exchange
* illustrator cs3: save swatch library ase
* photoshop cs2/cs3: save swatches exchange
this create small .ase file can store wherever convenient. then, use these colors in indesign, illustrator or photoshop project:
1. choose 1 of following swatches palette or swatches panel menu in indesign, illustrator or photoshop:
* indesign cs2/cs3: load swatches
* illustrator cs2/cs3: open swatch library: other library
* photoshop cs2/cs3: load swatches
2. navigate saved ase file, , select it. colors saved in ase file loaded swatches palette, ready use.
swatches in color model (cmyk, rgb, pantone, etc.) can saved , exchanged between projects in manner. tints of colors , gradient or pattern swatches cannot saved ase files.
this script comes in handy me because @ last minute, before go press, we'll have change lot of ads land on spot red page rather full color page. if buys ad , specifies blue color, may not blue color if ad lands on spot red page. i've gotten script work , terribly impressed.
here's feel i'm close. if have change ad red, colors change fine in indesign using script. however, want illustrator art change well. 1 thing did name colors in test ad same thing colors in illustrator. hope once swapped out .ase files , replaced colors in indesign, because colors had same name in illustrator, replace too. but, didn't happen. so, tried sort of work backwards building .ase file out of illustrator , loading indesign. while works, means artwork has color ad end being - in test case, either blue or red. tried load script in illustrator, didn't work. can't blame girl trying. so, question is: know of way can streamline process have switch out .ase files in indesign? 1 option thought of have multiple colors of art - in case, lets logo - set variety of swatch options in illustrator , choose whichever color wanted file in ad. then, based on color of logo, load corresponding .ase file in indesign. but, means have have multiple color versions of same art , thats not practical. have better way? feel i'm close , perhaps missing 1 or 2 steps.
