Thread: Palimpsest says bad sectors- how to fix them?

i not sure post post here.
forgive me moderators if wrong place.

issue here have wd hdd (western digital external harddisk) size 640gb. partitioned 2 partitions in window$ vista , ever since laptop has not been able read unless through terminal. not case desktop.

thing here palimpsest disk utility (since 9.10) has started complaining hdd has whole lot of bad sectors, doesn't tell me how fix it....

can't seem find google (maybe wrong keywords, cant think might be?).

how can "fix" these "bad sectors" if bad sectors?
checked vista , says nothing of sort.
hdd fat32 changed ntfs when added partition.

*on note, ubuntu need defragmenting? there way? these 2 things can't find relevant google.

please copy text or post screenshot of palimpsest showing details of failure. example:

reallocated sector count - count of remapped sectors. when hard drive finds read/write/verification error, marks sector "reallocated" , transfers data special reserved area (spare area)

assessment
warning

value
normalized: 100
worst: 100
threshold: 5
value: 8848628 sectors
it may bug, need know palimpsest reporting.
