you can template, remove positions in template's index.php display menus. example, sites have left menus called by:
so create new template existing, remove unwanted positions, , install second template site. leave default template set default, assign second template home.
to create new template existing one, copy package files new directory. example, if have directory /template1 on local machine, create new directory /template2. copy /css , contents, /images , contents, index.php, template_thumbnail.png (if exists), , templatedetails.xml /template2. once copied, edit /template2/templatedetails.xml , change name , description, example 'template' 'home template'. edit index.php discussed above. after saving, zip files , directories within /template2 directory, , ready install.
