Autonumbering Figures in FrameMaker 7.2

i need number figures in book consecutively through chapters. use following autonumber format in chapters:<br /><br />f:figure <n+>: <br /><br />however, first figure in each chapter starts rather arbitrary number. how looks in first few chapters.<br /><br />- figure 1: figure 6: (ok)<br />- figure 7: (ok)<br />- figure 7: figure figure 40: (should figure 8: figure 41:)<br />- figure 12: figure 18: (should figure 42: figure 48:)<br />- figure 19: figure 20: (should figure 49: figure 50:)<br />- etc.<br /><br />the chapters not numbered, have titles.<br /><br />happy help!<br /><br />gunnar

i'm not sure how familiar fm, let's start
with basics:
have updated book? numbering between files doesn't
change unless update book. (common misconception)

then, have set numbering in book file correctly?
in book file window, need select on or more files,
and check numbering properties. in dialog, check
that paragraph numbering set continue last file
(for files intended work that), or
restart 1 (for first chapter instance).
note: not check or change numbering properties
within individual file. book settings override
settings in individual files.

if change numbering properties, don't forget
update book again... (see above)

if doesn't correct problem, may have other
paragraphs beside figure numbering tag incorrectly
use "f:" autonumbering series. may think
don't have any, empty paragraph may have override
that uses "f:". such paragraph exist between
last correctly numbered figured in 1 file , first
incorrectly numbered figure in next file.
