Processing Nikon Scan 4.0.2 NEF files in PSE 7 Raw Editor

i own nikon coolscan 5000 ed. scan software nikon scan 4.0.2 can produce "raw" files nef extension. on web found remarks concerning file type stating scanner nef not raw file. scanned pixel has 3 color values, there no need demosaicizing. stated in fact nef file type of tiff file instead.

anyhow, importing scanner nef file in pse7 adobe camera raw editor seems impose no problems. after editing image can saved including editing parameters, original image may restored or changed repeated editing. choosing "done" editing info saved in xmp file additional nef file. may save dng file containing editing parameters image data in single file. processed file may loaded editor workspace directly additional fine tuning.

my question comes down to: viable solution real raw processing of scanned images. scanner nef file not raw, i'm not sure whether or not acr editor (or converter) handles image data correctly. acr editor know scanner nef file demosaicized? , additional metadata (like colorspace) correctly interpreted?

do have experience or knowledge quality of type of workflow, please let me know. comments welcome!

a scanner nef tiff file practical purposes. camera raw plug-in using normal tiff processing logic on file.
