never used joomla before, making me pre-newbie lol. read install manual. have existing site i'll re-doing j. during installation, see on installation - step 3 (described here http://help.joomla.org/content/view/39/164/), type in url of site use joomla with. so... after installation, happen existing site?

is old website in webroot?
the homepage of site called index.htm(l), "homepage" of joomla called index.php
people visit http://www.yourdomain.com/ http://www.yourdomain.com/index.htm(l)
if want see joomla site, use http://www.yourdomain.com/index.php
when finished joomla site, rename index.html index.bak , joomla site visible via http://www.yourdomain.com/
