dave,

even though you're connected net, still common have firewall, proxy or other software on machine block digital edition's communication server. there problem headers being sent webservices on our activation server machine.

this document in "error "adobe drm error" when activate digital editions or access ebook" @ http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402747, need add bit more technical detail headers, i'll try week..

ooh, found info:
make sure firewall using port 80 , no cache on
make sure firewall allows browser , reader/acrobat connect http://aractivate.adobe.com

here's list of http headers reader uses--open them both directions. ports standard http ports. (reader doesn't use ssl.)

x-ebx-version
x-abx-client
x-ebx-authenticate
x-ebx-authorization
x-ebx-authenticationinfo
x-ebx-authinfo2
---------
soapaction
accept-language
accept
connection
pragma
cache-control

i'll added technote. it'll on way. truthful these kind of firewall/proxy issues can hard figure out sometimes. (if possible) it's easier take machine network..
