breadboard / HAT for stepper control - recommendations? - Raspberry Pi Forums

i'm putting stepper motor controller rpi, planning use https://www.pololu.com/product/1182 (2 off) control 2 motors on telescope mount.

in order able step reasonably fast planning use 2 gpio pins directly drive step function, want use io extender can control other control pins on pololu board via i2c keep many direct gpio pins possible available.

ideally breadboard has i2c based io extender built in, enough area mount 2 pololu boards components need , access normal gpio pins can link couple stepper boards.

don't want or (as far can see) see need through arduino minimalist thread on newer pi running @ higher normal priority can waggle step pins fast enough - python, although small c module backstop solution.

can recommend base build on this?

do searching, post on forum, carry on searching - new thing pops up....... *sigh*

have found this from us, pretty fit, limitation compared pololu driver doesn't can increase , decrease power delivered during ramping etc. want run batteries, means pololu still better answer, ready go board rather tempting!
