Thread: #&%$&#* Tap to click hell!!!!

i'm recent ex-gentoo user got sick of constant problems gentoo , decided wanted "just worked". ubuntu has rep being installed 9.04 , few minor exceptions "just worked". far good.

so, i'm happily computing along other day , dialog pops asking me upgrade 9.10. figured it's minor upgrade how bad be? aside fact no longer sees sound card, went ok. or thought. apparently, decided fun idea turn on tap-to-click default in version. didn't notice right away after few minutes of accidentally launching programs , sending half written emails decided tap-to-effing-click had go. open 'touchpad' in settings , turn off, right?

wrong!

gsynaptics couldn't initialize.
have set 'shmconfig' 'true' in xorg.conf or xf86config use gsynaptics.

ok, didn't launch gsynpatics, launched 'touchpad' i'll play along. gentoo around xorg.conf until set nice dialog told me , touchpad/gsnapticwhatever launch, right?

wrong!

same effing message.

search net other people stuck in ring of touchpad hell. find lots of same error none of proposed solutions fix issue.

anyway, i've done time , don't have in me track down obscure xorg/hardware issue. want go ubuntu didn't suck. how can revert previous version of ubuntu?

ps: whoever invented tap-to-click should defenestrated. seriously, thought idea?
