Thread: GRUB error after installation onto USB drive

i had working installation of 9.10. decided install 9.10 onto external usb hard drive booting company laptop , running usb.
booted 9.10 cdrom, did install usb drive.
worked fine, usb drive boots , runs every machine tried on.

problem 9.10 installation on main machine gives grub error drive not found when usb drive not connected.

how recover main machine hard drive , boot again???

easiest way attach usb drive, boot hard disk install , if using grub2 run
code:
sudo update-grub /dev/sda
this assumes hard disk in laptop sda, in normal circumstances should be.

put grub hard disk onto mbr of laptop, if bios set boot usb first not find usb disk, default hard disk , boot instaled ubuntu. don't need change current bios boot order
