Thread: Comparison of file managers?

i'll attacked this, here goes.

know has been discussed million times in various places, can point me toward good discussion of file managers available in linux/ubuntu? started in vista today run gis software, , found vista pisses me off, quite explorer. closest equivalent linux?

things explorer layout of details view, plus available choices more details in different columns. i've tried nautilus script adds columns, , works, made nautilus un-useably (sp?) slow. favorite links/folders pane on left, , various details appear in bottom pane in explorer. integrated options appear when highlight file or folder, "organize" , "email". other little thing if have tree view in left pane, preference, , select long folder name, position of text in pane automatically adjusts can see words better. integrated search, @ least in theory, , way location bar works (shows "breadcrumbs" turn normal path when click it). idea of tags, haven't used them much. , somehow layout seems include more information in more compact space, if file previews on, i've tried on ubuntu.

have no plans go windows full time because drives me bonkers in every other respect. i've never been happy file managers i've tried on linux. far i've tried various tweaks , scripts nautilus, gnome commander, konqueror, dolphin, pcman, thunar, , couple of others i've forgotten. surely there 1 little bit more comprehensive , integrated, without being slow?

i windows explorer better file browser in linux.

tried of ones available in linux, ,
konqueror best tried, can configured be/do want.

nowadays nautilus. pretty good, , have gotten used it...
