Solved: Technical Communication Suite 2 Installer Crashes

i repeatedly getting crash installing tech comm suite 2 in windows xp installation files downloaded hard drive. crash happened in preinstallation phase, right @ beginning before serial number requested.

the adobe technical communication suite 2 installer freeze crash message, "adobe technical communication suite 2 installer has encountered problem , needs close. sorry inconvenience."

i had correct specs , resources installation , had turned off stuff think of. fm8 , cs3, including acrobat 8 pro, installed not running.

i found workaround problem in adobe knowledgebase , works under light testing. though, fm 9 not outputting fonts correctly using acrobat 9 (though word , fm8 not have issue), seems functional.

i'm little nervous because not tcs 2 installer did complete removal of acrobat 8 when installed acrobat 9, have not yet run gotcha.

here's found worked tcs 2 installed:

1) access kb search http://www.adobe.com/support.

2) search "adobe technical communication suite 2 installer" in product "technical communication suite" , select "product support" checkbox.

3) many results vista--so vista users presumably run this, too. "troubleshooting system errors , freezes (technical communication suite 2 on windows vista) (kb408338)."

4) pay attention , try step 4.: "4. run technical communication suite 2 while no other applications running" follows

[quote adobe kb article]

to disable startup items , non microsoft services:

1. quit applications.
2. choose start, type msconfig in search text box, , press enter.
3. write down unselected items under startup , services tabs.

7. click services tab, , check hide microsoft services.
8. select disable re-select services essential testing problem. if unsure whether item essential, leave deselected (disabled).
9. click apply, , restart windows changes take effect.

note: upon restart, you'll notified system configuration utility has made changes way windows starts up. click ok. when system configuration utility appears click cancel.

10. right-click icons in notification area , close or disable startup items still active.

then, try re-create problem:

* if problem no longer occurs, 1 of startup items cause of problem.
* if problem recurs, startup items not cause of problem , can re-enable them:
1. choose start, type msconfig in search text box, , press enter.
2. click general tab, , choose normal startup.
3. deselect items wrote down in step 3 of previous section.
4. click apply, , restart windows changes take effect.

sean,

you're quite correct in assumption installer doesn't
a job of cleaning out references older versions of acrobat
from registry, if wasn't installed in default
location on drive c:\program files.

i had manually go through registry , hunt down every acrobat
8 reference , deal it. however, once cleaned out, things
ran smoothly. now, if fix save pdf once ,
all... ;-)

you might want run cs4clean script scrub things down
before doing install. see:
