From design to print

i've been working 11x17 spread booklet layout within indesign (brochure) , may stuck in bad habit. majority of work lately has been starting raw photography (after edits) saved 300dpi hi-res psd files & placed in spreads in id (example: http://www.lifecareassurance.com/images/nov07.jpg . 6 pages of & i'm looking @ 11,753mb pdf. prints perfect file size seems bit high me. save psd pdf standard compression expert color high quality print on 600dpi canon image runner (c5180). test, reduced dpi of images 300 72 in ps leaving actual dimensions same. don't see obvious difference in quality within id in medium res view but, in-fact loosing quality doing that? if suggestions minimizing file size without compromising quality. have no problem room on server but, after 6 pages things slow down quite bit.

thanks!

sounds you're embedding graphics instead of linking them. if
that's not it, please post in indesign forum full details on
what you're doing including version of id.
