i'm trying generate pdf book. keep getting failure; if take toc file out, builds. if put in , make .ps file, "/checkcompliance out of range" error. compliance settings standard. have tried other settings, , customization looked might work. has else come across this? ideas?

specific fm version (the "pxxx" numbers > about. platform. how creating pdf -- using save or printing distiller printer instance? version of distiller using? 1 came bundled fm or other version.
did edit toc in way once created, e.g. adding graphics or tweaking reference page settings?
have tried removing toc , creating new 1 -- test, make brand new book chapter or two, add toc, update book generate toc, see if create pdf. if so, go original book, remove index , create new one.
