i have chapters (chap1, chap2, etc) , appendixes (appa, appb, etc) , can't toc generate appendix alpha character in page number column instead of chapter-type numeric character. so, appendix still shows 5-87 page number instead of a-87. way around can think of manually hack reference page, think there has better way.
it sounds if haven't set numbering properties component files of book in book file. configures type of string displayed <$chapnum> variable.
in book file, highlight ap a. right click > numbering > chapter , set start @ , use alpha style. apply , save book.
then, highlight other aps. right click > numbering > chapter , set increment , use alpha style. apply , save book.
update book.
