on 9.04, when being alerted whatever reason (being pinged in irc, etc) gave beep using internal speaker. fine me. however, since upgrading 9.10 beep disabled , beeping sound played through speakers used instead. call me nuts, absolutely hate new beep , old 1 back. i've searched no avail, couldn't find how enable it. seem 1 of few people beep because every search i've tried gives me dozens of results on how disable it, there no mention of enabling anywhere. i've removed pcspkr , snd_pcsp modprobe blacklist (/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf) didn't seem have effect @ all. i'm out of ideas , hope can me this. in advance.
