Filter error when importing graphic by reference

i using unstructured fm 8.0p277 on windows xp sp3. have been using import reference option of graphics (in case, screen shots).

i went replace referenced graphic new version. had fm document open page contained version replaced. in screen capture program, captured screen , did "save as", using same file name. in fm file, graphic turned grey , started flashing. tried import new file. status bar got 50% , got message:

the filter encountered error , not complete translation.

i deleted old grey graphic , frame contained it. tried reimport graphic , got same message. resnapped graphic , tried again. same result. saved fm file, existed out of fm , came in again , tried again. same result.

i tried importing different file , worked fine. tried rename file , still failed. , resnapped again new file name , still failed. problem particular screen shot? (note did have same screen captured earlier.)

we haven't heard newest version, here general troubleshooting questions start with:

how big chapter; # of pages, # of screenshots or other graphics.

how ram have on system? have tried closing fm , doing re-boot. also, test few other apps having been opened after re-boot possible.

are screenshots on same local system when import them (i.e. not across network)?

what screen capture utility (specific version helpful).

in format save screen captures? specific settings applied?

how name captures? have tried making names smaller (i.e. 8 characters or less, without spaces or other punctuation)?

as test, try 1) make backup copy of chapter first, 2) save chapter .mif, 3) open .mif , save again fm. 4) re-try graphic import.
