i had windows xp set on laptop. installed xubuntu dual boot when enters grub can't use arrow keys choose windows xp. if wait go xubunto on timer if press or down arrow blocked. no response key , have turn off @ power.
tried again reintalling windows xp again on half drive leaving other half free, reintalling xubuntu on other half, same problem.
don't know if can reintall grub in xubuntu or whether there fix.
ideas?

did install xubuntu 9.10 or earlier version? 9.10 uses different version of grub
