Built FM DITABook (made FM binaries) -- how do I get back to XML?

for framemaker 8 dita.

i gen'ed apparently "clean" binaries dita xml -- how gen "clean" dita xml binaries?

background
i created bunch of dita topic files .xml, assembled them in dita map file.

next, used build fm ditabook dita map file export xml files binary (or if prefer, "classic") framemaker book containing list of ".xml.fm" binary (a.k.a. "classic chapter") files.

i proceeded edit binary files, closely conforming dita tag structure create framemaker book , constituent binary topic files validated , gen'ed without error.

finally, used save as save .fm chapter files xml. (actually, fm8 reason wants export them ".xml.xml" files...)

the problem

  1. when save .fm files xml, framemaker reports error essence of "root element different doctype".

  2. framemaker reports same error if open given .xml file save file itself.

  3. if re-open file contained error, framemaker not report error. seems open-ing , save-ing xml file "cleans" error out of file.

so, there way go directly "clean" xml without performing intermediate open/save operation?

cheers & thanks,
riley

hi riley...

sorry, not intended use of these files. :)

it *can* done, it's fair amount of work. content revisions should made in source files, generate new book. accepted "best practice" maintaining book easy updating described here ..
